PILIBHIT: UP police on Wednesday booked three members of a family for allegedly forcing a 25-year-old woman out of their house and thrashing her brutally after she refused to heed to their demands of dowry worth over Rs 10 lakh.
Shabbo Ali, 25, in her police complaint has alleged that her husband and her in-laws subjected her to physical as well as mental torture for dowry since the day one of her marriage on December 21, 2019.
She alleged that her husband,
Nasir Ali, was already given enough dowry but her in-laws put additional demand for 100 grams of gold ornaments, one Royal Enfield bike and cash worth over Rs 2 lakh. The victim was forced out of her husband’s house on October 16, 2021 and after about seven months, her husband along with his parents reached her brother’s house on May 12, where she was staying, and thrashed her brutally for not fulfilling their demands.

Balveer Singh, said that the three accused have been booked under sections 498 A (subjecting a woman to cruelty by husband or his relatives), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) 504 (intentional insult) of IPC and appropriate sections of Dowry Prohibition Act.
